For instance, DVD PROFILER only wants the shorter barcode. DVDpedia wants all 12 digits. That was the reason why it took forever to enter/search a new title. Now that I know that little trick, I am whizzing through my collection as we speak. .....Nice to meet you. Likewise, and I apologize for my e...

Sorry, friend. I was making fun of your tone, which was more than a little snippy. It sounds as though you are unhappy to have switched to a Mac, and I have NEVER heard that before! The problems you describe are not insuperable. When you switch to a new platform and a new application, you have to ex...

No, you should go back to the PC. And take Laurel and Hardy with you.

It would be great if you could provide us with a kit that allowed us to assemble the sort of -pedia databases that suited our collections.

Or create custom DBs for those willing to buy them?

Wouldn't that result in giving them all the same title rather than removing the asterisks from a number of different titles? Eeeps. You are right. I was thinking that all the asterisk marks would group, but the problem is that sorting doesn't recognize those characters. My apologies for giving bad ...

If the *** are a rating system, there's a field in DVDpedia called MyRating. Or you could use one of the Custom Fields as a place to put the asterisks, perhaps changing them into numerals. Anyway, your choice.

I would get rid of those leading characters by doing a Multiple Edit. Just select all the problematic entries, do a Cmd-E, and then in the template write the title as you wish to see it. Bingo, they all change to the new form. This is the quickest way to clean up data so that it sorts well and has c...

Second the motion! I am cataloging 5,000 books, most of which will go to a research institute library, but I have several firsts and rare editions that I'd like to sell via ABE. Also, all Mac users of ABE should petition them to update Homebase to OS X compliance.

It might make sense for small collections, but not for big ones. I will eventually have 5,000 books, over 1,000 CDs, and 800 DVDs. I don't want all that stuff in the same database. Look at the field templates sometime and note how different they are! However, I do wish there were a Pedia Lite that I...

Yes, that's the correct procedure. It's faster to transfer the data if you make a ZIP file of it, by using BP's Export: Backup command. Then copy the ZIP file to a flash drive, and then to your laptop, expand it and place it in the Library: Application Support: Bookpedia folder.

I would also like to be able to catalog a large collection of audio cassette tapes, in addition to vinyl records. Tapepedia, anyone??

You could make Vinyl one of your Custom Fields. I created one called iTunes and then coded the field yes/no; with Smart Collections I can quickly see which discs are in my iTunes library and which aren't.

This may not be the answer you want to hear, but I find it's a lot faster just to type in the ISBN or else a short version of the title. If your items don't have those standard features, especially titles in a Roman alphabet, then I understand why you prefer to use the iSight. I think several thread...

I'm not seeing the problem here. I own several boxed sets, and Amazon has so far included the titles of every film. I copy and paste the titles to Comments, so they show in Info before the Summary.
