The borrowed feature and collection
The borrowed feature is pretty straight-forward but as the saying goes: there are many different ways to skin a cat. (Even though Bruji loves cats and would never do such a thing...)
Marking an entry as borrowed
- Drag the entry into the Borrowed collection.
- Fill out the name and date on the 'Borrowed by' sheet.
or
- Select the entry and ctrl-click (right-click) it.
- Choose 'Mark as/Borrowed' from the contextual menu.
- Fill out the name and date on the 'Borrowed by' sheet.
or
- Ctrl-click (right-click) your toolbar and choose 'Customize toolbar' from the contextual menu.
- Drag the Borrow button into your toolbar.
- Now you can select an entry and just click on the borrow button in the toolbar to open the 'Borrowed By' sheet.
Filling out the 'Borrowed by' sheet
- If the borrower is in your address book, start typing the name into the 'Borrowed By' field. The program will try to fill in the name automatically for you.
- Alternatively, click on the address book next to the 'Borrowed By' field and choose the borrower from there.
- The 'On' field automatically contains today's date. If you want to change it, either type in the new date or click on the calendar next to the field, choose the correct date and close the calendar.
- The 'Due Date' field contains the return date according to what you have set as your default return date in the Preferences.
Returning an entry
- Go into the Borrowed collection, select the entry and hit the delete button on your keyboard.
or
- Select the entry and ctrl-click (right-click) it.
- Choose 'Mark as/Returned' from the contextual menu.
or
- Open the info view by pressing the
and choose one of the templates that includes the return button (for example 'Collection', 'Mint' or 'Tiger'). - Press the Return button in the info view.
Using the Borrowed History feature
Once an entry has been borrowed it automatically receives a borrowed history which shows you who borrowed the entry on what date and when it was returned.
- To access the borrowed history for an entry, select the entry and go into the Advanced menu/Borrowed history for entry.
- You can also change the borrowed history in that window.
The 'Entries borrowed by...' feature
This feature allows you to see at a glance the history of a person's borrowing habits.
- Go into the Advanced menu/Entries borrowed by... and choose a person from the address book pop-up.
- A collection called 'Borrowed: [Name of Person]' will be created and it will include all the entries this person has ever borrowed from you.
The status banner over the cover image
When you add an entry to the borrowed collection via any of the ways described above, not only will you get a mark in the table view to let you know of its status, but you will also see a red banner over the cover image of the entry that reads "Due back in x days".
If you would prefer not to have that banner over the cover image, go into your Preferences/Style and check the box next to "Don't show status banners over cover images".
