Purchasing the Upgrade
To run version 3.0 you need a new serial number which you can purchase right here. The price of the upgrade is US $9 per application or US $21.60 for all three applications. Enter the email below with which you purchased the programs originally and click the button of the program you'd like to upgrade. (NOTE: this feature does not work in Firefox because of Javascript limitations. Please use another browser such as Safari or OmniWeb instead.) Manually Entering the Coupon in the Bruji Store.
The upgrade is available with coupons. If for some reason the above procedure does not work for you or you would like to enter the coupon on your own, proceede through the Bruji store as usual and during the checkout process use the coupon that applies to you:DVDpedia's coupon is DVDUPDATE.
Bookpedia's coupon is BOOKUPDATE.
CDpedia's coupon is CDUPDATE.
The coupon for all three programs is BUNDLEUPDATE.
On the same page as the coupon, remember to use the same email address you used when you originally purchased the programs. The database will need that email to verify that you are eligible for the upgrade.
I just bought the program a couple of weeks ago. Do I need to upgrade?
If you purchased the programs after March 9, 2006 you are eligible for a free upgrade and do NOT have to purchase a new serial number. The program will not prompt you to upgrade and no action is required on your part.
What are the major changes in version 3?
The Interface
The brushed metal look has been toned down to match the new iTunes interface - a polished, light grey instead of the harsher metal (if you want even less metal check out our extras page). Also, the info drawer on the side of the main window has been retired and replaced with the info view - a customizable web view that can be used in conjunction with the table or the cover view or on its own. The toolbar buttons have all gotten a little once-over too, to give the applications a cleaner look.
The Big Features
The new version 3 applications all come with the following new features in common:- Library-independent collections, so you can keep certain collections out of your library collection, like DVDs you rented or books you borrowed from the library.
- A links section that allows you to link anything to an entry: web pages, files, images, movies, Video_TS folders, screenshots, text, PDFs, programs and most important other Pedia entries.
You can link between entries of the same Pedia so that for example all entries in a box set would link to each other. You can also link between programs, so "Harry Potter" the movie can be linked to "Harry Potter" the book in Bookpedia and "Harry Potter" the game in Gamepedia. Most types of links will open straight inside the Pedias again and those that the programs can't open, will launch in their appropiate viewer, such as a Video_TS with DVD Player. - A new info view which replaces the info drawer. Very customizable, it comes with 14 different templates and allows for everybody to tailor the programs to fit their needs. We look foward to having many more on our extras page as the programs mature.
- Database statistics to provide you with some inside information about your database, like the number of movies you have by Spielberg or which CDs are the most popular ones to be borrowed. The statistics can also be included in the export.
- Collection count display, lets you see at a glance how many entries you have in all your different collections.
- Universal binary for Intel Macs.
- As well as many other refinements: Autofill in the table view, translucent cover display for the drag icon, updated widget, improved spotlight plugin, improved drag and drop...
What Happens When I Upgrade
Because the inner workings of version 3 of the Pedias are completely different, the database needs to be updated before it can run with this new version. That means the actual data file for each Pedia application (the file by default located in User/Library/Application Support/[Name of the Pedia]) has to be updated. The program will do this automatically the first time you open version 3.As a precaution and also in case you would like to go back to version 2.3, the program will create a backup of your current data folder named "Previous 2.0 ...pedia".
Answers to the Most Pressing Questions
Do I have to upgrade?
No, if you'd prefer to keep using the old 2.3 version of your Pedia, you may do so for as long as you like. Do check back on our progress with new versions though. You might find a feature you like and would like to upgrade then.
Can I delete the "Previous 2.0 ...pedia" data folder?
Once you have purchased the upgrade and are happy with the new program and have run it for several weeks you can remove the "Previous 2.0 ...pedia" folder. If you ever created any custom templates, make sure you have copied them to the new folder and updated them before deleting the folder. On a related note, always remember to backup your important data including your Pedia data folder on a regular basis.
How do I downgrade?
If you have already opened the new version and followed the prompt to update your database, then you will have to do the following to revert to the previous version (2.3) of your Pedia application. (The example uses Bookpedia but the procedure is the same for DVDpedia or CDpedia.)- Quit any version of Bookpedia you have running.
- Go into User/Library/Application Support and delete the folder 'Bookpedia'.
- Find the folder 'Previous 2.0 Bookpedia' and rename it to 'Bookpedia'.
- Delete your Bookpedia plist file, located in User/Library/Preferences/com.bruji.bookpedia.plist
- Now start up Bookpedia 2.3 again.
- Because the plist file was deleted, you will have to register the application again with your old serial number.

Delete the Bookpedia folder

Rename this folder to Bookpedia

Delete this file
Where can I find version 2.3?
The following are the links to version 2.3: DVDpedia 2.3, Bookpedia 2.3 and CDpedia 2.3.
Where are my export templates?
Because the Pedias all create a new database folder during the upgrade, the templates folder will also be new. The old templates folder is still there for you to access, in case you wrote any templates of your own or changed some of the existing ones. You can find the old templates folder in the folder called "Previous 2.0 [Name of the Pedia], which is located in User/Library/Application Support.
What's with the new HTML tags?
The Pedia templates have all received new placeholders - instead of the old <--Name--> tag they now read [Key:Name]. This new format has the great advantage that the tags do not have to be hard-coded into the program like the old ones, meaning that if we forget to include a tag, the program can still display the field in the template because all it needs to look for now is '[Key:' and display whatever field it encounters afterwards. And since all the Pedias run on a shared framework now this means that there is a lot less coding involved and a lot less worrying about whether all the tags have been included.
Where did the cover images go?
The cover images (all those .jpg files that were flying around in your Pedia data folder before) have been moved to a dedicated folder now, imaginatively called 'Covers'. The folder is located inside your Pedia data folder alongside the other necessary files and folders (info.xml, templates folder, plug-ins folder).
