Re: Filter search by custom fields

OK, the Smart Collection tip didn't work (but maybe I'm doing it wrong). Details: I actually have two (not including Borrowed and Wish List) Collections: - the standard Library Collection that contains all the DVDs I actually own - an "Of Interest" Collection that contains movies/discs I'm...

Filter search by custom fields

This may not be a feature request as I just might not know how to do it. I'd like to filter my searches (upper right Search field) to just a custom field. Currently the magnifying glass menu allows "All Fields", "Columns Shown" plus a list of fields that don't include my custom f...

Re: About android devices (not a port request)

Thanks Alex. I will look into it.

Also, once I figure out what to do I'll post the results here in case it can be of help to someone else.

Gary

Re: About android devices (not a port request)

Conor,

Thanks very much for your reply.

I will start trying things out, probably Dropbox first (which seems the simpliest) and maybe some other stuff later, depending on results.

About android devices (not a port request)

As stated in the subject title this is not a request to port Xxxpedia to the android (or any other) platform. As a developer myself I can well understand the desire to focus and the lack of necessary resources. That said, I'd like to (at least) look at some Bookpedia data on an android device. Why? ...

Re: Pedias in the MacApp Store

Thanks for the response ... and thanks also for the efforts you've made for those of us who don't completely buy into Apple's "closed garden" approach to development. Nevertheless, I hope your MacApp Store review goes well (hmmm ... for someone my age the word "MacApp" brings bac...

Pedias in the MacApp Store

Got your email that included a mention that the Pedias were in review for inclusion in the MacApp Store. I understand the desire to participate in another distribution venue for your apps. However, please don't "dumb down" your apps in an attempt to placate the Apple "overlords"....

Re: 5393 ... and counting

To vid-pac-rat : I guess I am my local library. Yes ... I do have a lot of books (more now than when I originally posted) ... and the 5393 didn't include most of my technical books (and let's not get into the comics and magazines). Like you, (or so your ID implies) I'm a pack-rat. I consider it a ch...

Re: 5393 ... and counting

Thanks for your response. One of the problems with the FileMaker Pro tab-delimited export is that it doesn't include a header line of field names so that has to be added manually. The XML exports have the advantage of containing the field name (as well as other) data. I've created two XML samples th...

5393 ... and counting

I just loaded 5,393 book entries into Pocketpedia (374 in the Wish List). Was it my imagination or was the iPod Touch warmer after the sync was over? In any case, all seems well so far. The data started out in a Filemaker Pro database, part of it became a tab-delimited text file (exported from FMP) ...

Some fields not accessible in column view after import

NOTE: I think I solved my problem (discussed below): by going into the preferences | Fields tab and checking the appropriate check boxes so that the fields appear in the Add Edit Panel they then also become available in the drop down menu and view options panel. Not exactly intuitive but it does th...

Allow disabling of sort (and other comments about sort)

Background My wife keeps a database of books she's read. She will typically read several books then "batch" update the database. She does this by using Amazon to create the initial record for each book she's adding then modifying the record (e.g., she modifies the Author field because she...

Programmatic control of Bookpedia, etc.

I asked this a year or so ago. I think I'll ask it once a year.

Is there any way (yet) to programmatically control Bookpedia (and etc. but, at this time, especially Bookpedia), i.e., through AppleScript, Automator or even the command line?

That would be nice.

Gary Nunes
