Why do many UPC searches fail?

Post by UnderPlatypus »

I wonder why so many of the UPC searches I try in CDPedia fail because when I switch to a keyword search and find the item, the UPC information appears -- and it is correct!

So, at the risk of repeating myself, if the UPC information is indeeed there, why does the UPC search fail?

This is a problem with Amazon, especially for CDs and foreign Amazon sites. They tend to do better searches when it comes to books or DVDs. Although they return the UPC information they don't make it searchable. But they are continually working hard on updates, improving their services and bringing more consistency across the different country sites. So we hope in the future UPCs will be searchable.
