Images in the Info View

Hi.

First of all I want to thank you for a great program.

I have just started to play around with the "Info View" and my idea was to add images of the actors and of the director.
I thought that I could start a thread about it here, if some other people want to do the same thing.

I made a copy of the standard "Collection.html" file and made the following changes:

first

Code: Select all

<!--IFdirector<div class="field"><div class="title">[translate:director]:</div><div class="text">[key:director]</div></div>ENDdirector-->
to

Code: Select all

<!--IFdirector<div class="field"><div class="title">[translate:director]:</div><div class="text">[key:director]</div><img src="Images/person/[key:director].jpg"></div>ENDdirector-->
and then

Code: Select all

<!--IFcredits
<div class="links">
<ul>
[creditsBegin]<li>[credit:name] : [credit:role]</li>
[creditsEnd]
</ul>
</div>
ENDcredits-->
to

Code: Select all

<!--IFcredits
<div class="links">
<ul>
[creditsBegin]<li>[credit:name] : [credit:role]<br>
<img src="Images/person/[credit:name].jpg"></li>
[creditsEnd]
</ul>
</div>
ENDcredits-->
I then created a folder named "person" in "Application Support/DVDpedia/InfoTemplates/Images/"

I have then searched for the actors and directors on IMDB.com or images.google.com and dragged a picture of the person to this folder. I have taken pictures that is about 100x140 or something like that in size (the image in the top left corner on the actors page on IMDB is about that size).

Then I rename the image to the name of the actor, like "Kevin Spacey.jpg" or "Brad Pitt.jpg" for an example.

The Info View now looks like this:

Image

It took I while to arrange all the pictures, but I think it was worth it.

And if you list the complete cast of the movie i guess it will be way to much work to arrange it. I only list the main actors.

That is very useful. Here is a tip you will enjoy even more. Go to dougweb and you can download all the head shots for all actors with all possible name variations then drop them into your persons folder (it's only about 40 mega bytes). Thank you for sharing your tips with your info view changes and the above repository of head shots it becomes simple to add actor thumbnails.

Great tip but where could I find the "Collection.html" file? :?

You have to ctrl-click (right-click) the DVDpedia icon and choose 'Show package contents'. Then navigate to Contents/Resources/WebViewFiles/Collection.html

If you do edit the template, make a copy of it and put it in a folder called 'InfoTemplates' in your DVDpedia data folder (by default located in your Home folder under User/Library/Application Support/DVDpedia) so that the template won't get overwritten next time you update the program.

I found it but which folder should I use (there are several "Collection.html" in different folders)?

Sorry, I forgot about the localization folders. It doesn't really matter which template you use since you're going to make a copy and place it outside of the program anyway. But if you're using the program in English then the 'en' folder would be the one.

You are also going to need to copy any images you might use in your template. In the case of the collection style the only image is the little plus button, but you can copy the entire image folder as it's small (144kb). Your program data folder then should look like this:

~/Library/Application Support/DVDpedia/
InfoTemplates/
MyCopyOfCollection.html
Images/

Thanks, I will try this when I have the time. But when I try to open the "collection.html"-file in the texteditor I only get a image, not the code in textformat. So I wonder wich program could I use?

I'd recommend TextWrangler. It's a very good program and it's free.

With TextEdit you have to be careful as it interprets the HTML instead of showing you the code. You have to use the File-->Open command and check the "ignore rich text" and select the file to open.

Love this but is it possible to, on no picture file located, skip trying to place it with a question mark box and just enter the name only.

I am not a programmer so do not know what will be needed to do this.

Any assistance for a work around would be appreciated, also where else can one look for Head Shots beyond what is already posted here?

The above code works an absolute treat. I downloaded the dougweb headshots and have been busy adding missing credit thumbnails (actor/director/producer/composer/cinematography/editor) for my own data base. I have also included the above code in my own "http://www.bruji.com/extras/jungleGreen.html which includes the IMBd and Wiki link icons against the Credit entries plus now the thumbnail photos. If anybody would like this modified "Jungle Green Photos Info View Template" along with my present thumbnail data base (presently at 9600 photos = 65Mb) drop me a PM. Of course the photos will have to be split over several zip files. The average photo size is W100px X H140px at approx. 6kb each.

Perhaps in the future Doghouse could have a database of headshot thumbnails and the standard Info Templates or the main App could be coded to fetch these and display them in the Info View window. Members could also be able to contribute their databases from all over the world, similar to what we are doing now with the Doghouse Contribute. This would be great as in my own research to update these photos, IMBd has only a 75% or less success rate and I have to do a Google Images search.

Perhaps this same process could be applied to Authors in Bookpedia & musicians/bands in CDpedia.

Anyway, I find having a photo against the DVDpedia Credit entries a HUGE benefit. It brings the program closer to the movie & cast and you the user.

I tried to add that to my own template, but since version 5 of the Pedias, there are always these filter scripts imposed on "director" and "credit name", where my links to IMDb were, which causes visible scrambled html code in the template, so I had to remove my own links.

How do I get rid of these imposed filter scripts? I can't find any clue in my template. It must be something in Pedias settings.

I found the clue myself!!
I had to add: <meta name="filterLinks" content="no" />

Now the script is off!
